Suryakumar Yadav’s superb century without 45 balls led India to a 2-1 victory over Sri Lanka with a 91-point win in his third Twenty20 international match.
Suryakumar went unbeaten on 112 of 51 balls, including nine sixes, as the hosts scored 228-5 at Rajkot.
It is his third T20 ton international and the second fastest by an Indian batsman after Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball hundred ton against Sri Lanka in 2017.
After India won a thrilling first match by two points and Sri Lanka tied in the second with a 16-point victory, the hosts dominated the decider.
Coming into the sixth fold, 52-2 to India, Suryakumar was 111 for the third wicket with Shubman Gill at 46 in 36.
Suryakumar, who only made his T20 international debut in March 2021, now has three of the five fastest centuries for India in the men’s T20 internationals, while his other two have hit 48 and 49 balls.
Only India captain Rohit, who missed this series with a thumb injury, scored more T20 with four international tons. Additionally making three were Australian Glenn Maxwell, New Zealander Colin Munro, and Czech Sabawoon Davizi.
After India won the toss, Rahul Tripathi shot 35 for 16 before Axar Patel added 21 for nine late on. Sri Lanka faltered in reply, losing their last six wickets for 41 runs as Indian sailor Arshdeep Singh won 3-20 left-arm.
The two teams now meet in three one-day international matches, starting in Guwahati on Tuesday.
